Bosses must do background checks on domestic workers

NORMALLY there are procedures to be followed when hiring someone, but this doesn’t always happen with domestic workers.Brixton station spokeswoman Jeanette Backhoff said they had noticed a trend where domestic workers were involved in housebreakings.
 She urged homeowners to have their employees’ personal details and to send their fingerprints to the police for background checks.

 “Since the beginning of the year, we found quite a few housebreaking cases where domestic workers were implicated.Foreigners are often a problem because they don’t have proper documents.They ask for small wages, but in return they steal.Not only do they create mistrust with employers, they make it hard for South African citizens to find jobs because they ask for less money.


It’s in the homeowners’ best interests to do a proper background check before bringing people into their homes.Housebreaking by domestic workers can be fought against if employers can be responsible with their homes.

HELPFUL WOMAN WAS RAPED!

A 36-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two unknown suspects in what seemed to be a roadside scam in Bushbuckridge.
According to the police, the woman was driving home last week when a half-naked woman appeared from the bushes and attempted to stop her. She appeared to be asking for help.

 Police spokesman Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said after driving a few metres, the victim decided to drive back. Immediately after stopping her car, the half-naked woman disappeared and a man popped up out of the bush. He was wearing a balaclava and pointed a firearm at her.
 Sedibe said the suspect got into the car and instructed the woman to drive towards the Injaka dam. He invited his friend to come along.
“When they got there the victim tried to escape but the suspect fired a shot, forced her to undress and they both took turns raping her. They robbed her of an undisclosed amount of money, a cellphone and other belongings, and then fled in a green VW Citi Golf,” said Sedibe.

 No one has been arrested and police are looking for the suspects, including the woman who appeared to be asking for help. Anyone with information that could lead to the suspects’ arrest is urged to call Constable Dolly Marule on 072 969 1985 or phone the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

 These suspects need to be put in jail immediately , the community is better of without them, they are ungrateful .And also motorists should be careful of people on the road looking for help.

Lectures at WSU campuses ground to halt

Academic programmes have ground to a halt at two Walter Sisulu University campuses after students decided to go on strike.

Since last week, students at the university’s Nelson Mandela Drive site on Mthatha campus boycotted classes over issues relating to accommodation and “academic exclusion” of fellow students.

This morning, all five sites at the Buffalo City campus were without students as they resolved to embark on a strike during a mass meeting they held at the university’s East London (College Street) site on Monday
SRC president at the Mthatha campus Mxolisi Zoko told DispatchLIVE that students have not been attending classes since early last week.
“Our demands include the provision of accommodation to all students. Another burning issue is that of students who are unable to register because they are owing the university,” he said.
At the time of writing, students were still in a mass meeting discussing a way forward.
SRC secretary at the Buffalo City campus Luvo Quvile said their main issue was residences that were not meeting the standards stipulated by the department of higher education and training.
“We have students that live in rooms that have broken doors or broken windows,” he said.
Quvile said they have been negotiating with the management to fix all the issues, “but nothing has happened”, he said.

THE CRISIS OF STUDENT ACCOMODATION

The free education announcement by the government will increase the enrolment numbers across all universities and technical colleges of South Africa. Without a doubt, the government will reach its Vision 2030 target of having 1.5 million students enrolled across all institutions of higher learning in the country. In addition, the government has compelled itself to cover all costs associated with fees and subsidies to cater for the increased numbers. 

In our school(WSU) it is clear free education announcement has led to many abrupts, as a result sinking number of students are still out of accomodations... This announcement made the university to enroll plenty of students this year. 😒😒😒 It is  said that the are still rooms that are empty but there's a number of students who are out of accomodations.
